The Annual Old Priorians Sports day on Sunday 2nd July 2017 saw Old Priorians of many generations gather together at Perivale playing fields. The day started early with Cricket victories for the OPCC (v. OPRFC) and the School 1st XI (v. St Benedict’s Staff), setting the scene for a nail biting cricket final in the afternoon. The weather “behaved” and it was great to see so many Old Priorians enjoying the sunshine, the Cricket and the Rounders and generally catching up with old friends.
Our OP ladies arrived in time for lunch and to prepare for a game of Rounders in the afternoon. Teams were made up of OP girls v. St Benedict’s Upper Sixth girls. After a somewhat casual start, the competitive element kicked in with the OP girls managing to win by a small margin. Many thanks to our returning female OPs, (captained by Marina Ranger (OP 2009)), for coming along and participating in a great game.
The afternoon cricket saw the OPCC win by 32 runs against St Benedict’s 1st XI, with a century being scored by Harry Britt (OP 2014).
The OPA was celebrating its 90th Birthday on 1st July this year. Former 1st XI Cricket Coach for many years, Ian Stephen (OP 2008) helped lead the celebrations, cutting the birthday cake, magnificently produced by the School catering department. Dicky Thomas (Staff) was a wonderful and able compere for the day.
Finally retiring to the pavilion, the Headmaster, Andrew Johnson, commented on the strength of the OPA community and the OPA 90th Birthday celebrations. He also expressed his hopes that the out outgoing 1st XI team members would keep playing cricket, either at university or elsewhere; he presented the OPA Cricket Cup to Matthew Codrington (OP 2012) and 1st XI colours to members of the School 1st XI.
